In the 1980's, as a young mother, at home with four small children, I found that I desperately needed to supplement the family income. So I decided to capitalise on my ability to draw by teaching myself to paint. I was told at the time that "nobody would want a picture of a flower." That attitude changed when my pictures started to sell as quickly as I could paint them. I went on to sell hundreds of paintings and exhibited in our local exhibitions here in Cardiff, South Wales.
There was a large gap in my painting career when I turned my back on it to pursue a legal career. But I took up my brushes again three years ago and now there's no turning back. I'm doing what I love and what I believe I was always meant to do. I'm a "driven woman," making up for the lost years when I didn't paint. I actually start to feel quite frustrated and agitated if I'm deprived of my paint brushes for any length of time.
I am self taught. I paint in the medium of oils which are by far my favourite medium because I love their instant vibrance, ease of application and permanence. I always have several unfinished paintings on the go at one time and I go from one painting to the next, as the mood takes me. I'm currently working on my animal paintings, building up my Animals with Attitude series.
I find that my painting style is constantly evolving, the paintings I'm doing now being quite different to what I was doing just three years ago.
I spend my spare time riding my adorable horse Harry, on the mountains near to where we live. He's definitely the "other man" in my life and he's featured in both my Animals with Attitude page.
Many people have bought my pictures since I started selling again in October, 2008 and my pictures are now in homes worldwide. I love meeting my customers at our craft show and have received so many encouraging and lovely comments. To everyone I've met and all of you who have supported me, I just want to say a really big heart felt, "thank you" to ALL of you.
